The Palmerston North native earned his first class debut for Manawatu as a teenager in 2014, and became a key part of their success in winning the Championship and earning promotion to the Premiership in 2015.
He received a call-up to the Hurricanes wider training group in 2015, making his debut following a Beauden Barrett injury.
Otere was a key player for the New Zealand Under-20 side in their World Rugby Junior World Championship triumph in 2015. He was selected for the Maori All Blacks at just 20 years old for the tour to Fiji and has featured for the side against the NZ Barbarians, Irish side Munster and English side Harlequins.
Otere was part of the 2016 Super Rugby winning Hurricanes side and played against the British & Irish Lions in 2017.
Otere is yet to feature for the Blues, having been hampered by an injury suffered playing for his province during the 2017 Mitre 10 Cup. He was back running the cutter for Manawatu in 2018 before winning another call up into the Maori All Blacks for their end of year tour.
Otere made his debut for the Blues at first five-eighth against the Crusaders in the opening round of the 2019 Super Rugby season.
