Eden Park’s outer oval played host to Bluebeard Day on Tuesday, a chance for hundreds of children from Auckland primary schools to spend an afternoon in the sun with their rugby idols.

The Blues teamed up with Auckland Rugby’s Pro Sport students in an afternoon of skills and drills, providing a chance for kids and players to have a fun break from their normal routines.
Schools from as near as Kowhai Intermediate and as far as Torbay School and Coatesville School gathered for the event.
After a quick introduction to the team, it was time to be put through the paces in skills including relays, ball skills, and the classic game ‘stuck in the mud’.
For students of Balmoral School, the experience topped off an already physical day. The students had run their cross country that morning before walking over to Eden Park for the afternoon.
Jan Marie Williams, teacher at Balmoral School, said this community engagement was a wonderful opportunity for the students.
“It is really great for them to meet the people they see on TV.”
She noted how well the event was run and how excited the students were to meet their heroes.
“They nearly exploded out of excitement when the players arrived.”
