Blues v Reds Super Rugby Preview

Blues v Reds Super Rugby Preview

We’re set to make history on Friday as the first team to bring an Investec Super Rugby match to rugby-mad Samoa. Here’s hoping the game against the Reds is worthy of the occasion.

On present form, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone other than the most ardent Reds fans who’d be backing the Queensland outfit to win this one. The side come into this match off the back of a 26-40 thrashing by the Western Force, a five-point win over the lowly Rebels, and another 46-17 thrashing by the Chiefs.

Whereas our Blues will be spoiling for a win after a hard-fought 16-16 draw with the Chiefs at Eden Park last week. Our team was arguably the better side for much of the match, but nothing could break the deadlock in the end.

So, it all adds up to a winnable fixture for our boys in blue, right?

Stats attack

Statistically, the Blues are the superior side, having scored more points (370 v 259) and more tries (47 v 38), conceded less penalties (106 v 126) and tries (314 v 390), and even our goal kicking accuracy is much better (73.68% v 60.78%).

However, it’s worth pointing out that the Reds do maintain a winning record against our side, having won 10 of our last 21 encounters, with two draws. One of those tied matches was the last time we met the Reds.

Kick-off is at 7:35pm (NZ time) at Apia Park, Samoa.
