ìCaptain led from the front. Moved to lock after losing a player sent off, and was inspirational, physical in both defence and attack.
The No 7 was up against it with the pack down to seven. Non-stop tackling performance, got to breakdowns at will and ran himself to a standstill. Huge performance and lion-hearted display.
Second game in a row he had his kicking boots on with 100% record today to keep team in the game. Solid performance around the park also.
It doesn’t get any harder than that – playing in South Africa for 60 minutes with 14 players. Discipline let us down. We were still in the game with 15 minutes to play even with 14 men. The penalty count was 15-5 – you can’t win any game with 14 men and with that penalty count.
The guys showed incredible courage and commitment and we are definitely heading in the right direction.
We will be looking at replacements depending on the judiciary regarding Hayden Triggs and the shoulder injury for Stephen Luatua. We will know more in 24 hours but we only have a short turn around.
Sir John Kirwan
We were right in it and dug deep but those basic errors of discipline really cost us. We have made progress for sure and we prepared well this week. If we had 15 men then perhaps the result would have been different.
Our coach Glenn Moore came up with the tactic in the lineout which worked well. With seven forwards we had to think outside the square.
