BEST & FAIREST (Selected by Mediaworks)
5 Points: Brendon O’Connor
ìIn a gutsy forward pack against the much-vaunted, All-Black clad Crusaders pack, O’Connor tackled strongly, gained some outstanding turnovers and ran impressively in open play. Game-in, game-out the pick of the Blues.î
3 Points: Ihaia West
ìPerhaps his best display of the season, running to the line impressively, as well as distributing well and his kicking was again pin-point.î
1 Point: Will Lloyd
ìIn his first Super Rugby start, the 2.03m lock Will Lloyd had an excellent game, winning his ball against an All Black middle row and showed he will be a player for the future.î
WHAT THE COACH HAD TO SAY:
ìI was absolutely ecstatic with their courage and commitment. There were guys who played club football two weeks ago ñ it was 10 All Blacks vs one. We started really well but got beaten by a better football team. We got a lesson in the scrum and we made 18 handling errors. But it was good learnings for the young guys who never gave up.î
