Auckland-born, Mount Albert Grammar graduate, Sonny Bill Williams developed in Rugby League, moving to the Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL when he was 19, where he made a huge impact in the sport.
He moved to rugby in France in 2008 and signed to New Zealand Rugby in 2010, playing in the All Blacks winning 2011 Rugby World Cup campaign. He played for Canterbury and the Crusaders in 2011 and then moved to the Chiefs in 2012 before playing in Japan.
Sonny moved back to rugby league to honour a promise, playing for the Sydney Roosters in 2013-2014 when he was voted the best player in the world as the Roosters claimed the NRL title and were back-to-back Minor Champions.
Sonny moved back to rugby with Counties Manukau in 2014 and the Chiefs in 2015 before playing for the All Blacks in the back-to-back Rugby World Cup title in England that year.
He moved to Sevens in 2015-16 where he was selected for the All Black Sevens that included competing at the Rio Olympics where he suffered an Achilles injury that required surgery.
He has moved back to Auckland to sign for the Blues for three years. He is rated one of the most professional players in either code, and at 194cm and 108kg, he is an unstoppable midfield force with extraordinary passing skills.
