Rene Ranger is one of the Blues most dynamic backs, a player with individual flare and ability to produce moments of magic from nothing.
He returned from two years in France to join the Blues in 2016, but an ACL injury meant he was sidelined for much of the season.
The colourful Northlander was selected for the NZ Sevens in 2006 until 2008, and in the eight years from 2006, he was a remarkable contributor for the Northland side.
He called into the Blues in 2009 and has played 71 times since.
His astonishing displays earned call up to the All Blacks against South Africa in 2010. He would go on to earn six caps in the black jersey. In 2013, Rene made the decision to go overseas by signing with French club Montpellier. He stayed there for two years and earned 38 caps.
He suffered a neck injury that prevented him playing for North Harbour last year and his ACL injury sidelined him from the 2016 Mitre 10 Cup.
