Eroni Clarke

Eroni Clarke played probably his best rugby at provincial level for Auckland and at Super Rugby level for the Blues. Between 1991 and 2002, he played 150 games for the team, occasionally as captain. The hard running, hard tackling midfielder was unlucky to receive just 10 caps with the All Blacks, yet he remained loyal to the Blues and a strong influence on the team during its first five seasons. Justin Collins

Justin Collins made his first Super Rugby appearance for the Chiefs in 1998 and continued to prove himself as one of the best defensive players in the competition, and one of the most consistent.  He joined the Blues in 1999 and brought up his 100th Super Rugby game a decade later against the Stormers in Cape Town.  Collins retired from rugby […]

Steve Devine

Steve Devine was an Australian-born and raised halfback who settled in New Zealand to become not only an All Black (10 tests in 2002-03), but a worthy contributor to Auckland and the Blues. He managed 70 games for the club, despite competing with All Blacks Mark Robinson and David Gibson.

Sean Fitzpatrick

Sean Fitzpatrick, the hooker and Sacred Heart College old boy caught the eye of national selectors while with the powerhouse Auckland Rugby side in the 80s.  He was deputy captain behind Andy Dalton at the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1987 and helped the side earn the title at Eden Park. Fitzpatrick was awarded the captaincy […]

Force reckoned with at Eden Park

The embattled Western Force were a force to be reckoned with at Eden Park tonight, eventually going down 24-15 thanks to some excellent Blues tries at crucial times. The Aussies, no doubt motivated by speculation that they may be dropped from the Investec Super Rugby competition under the suggested new format, dominated possession early. In […]

Troy Flavell

Troy Flavell might have become one of the game’s greats such was his immense talent and athleticism as either a lock or blindside flanker. Injuries and ill-discipline hamstrung Flavell, but he was able to improve his performance enough to play in Japan in 2004 and then again in New Zealand in 2006. He briefly regained an All Black […]
