The Blues are thrilled that inside back Piers Francis has been named today in the England team to play against Argentina in June.
The English player, who is in his second year with the Blues, is leaving the team at the end of the season to return to UK to play for Northampton Saints in the English Premiership. This allows him to be considered for international selection during the international window as defined by World Rugby regulations.
Francis will be available to play for the Blues in their match against the Queensland Red in Samoa on Friday 2 June and will then join the England squad, ruling him out of consideration for the game against the Lions.
“It’s great news for Piers and we are really pleased that his strong form for the Blues has provided the platform for him to be considered for selection for England,” said Blues coach Tana Umaga.
“It’s a pity that he can’t be in the Blues team to play the Lions as he will be in Argentina, but we will welcome him back for Super Rugby in July.”
