Blues warm to the Heat in Japan

The Blues have kicked off our new relationship with Honda Heat Rugby Club with a camp in Suzuka, Japan to help prepare for the return to Investec Super Rugby.

The Blues squad spent a week at the Honda Heat training base and the camp involved combined training sessions, staff connections and a match. The Blues staff and players also provided coaching to University, High School and junior rugby players during their stay.

The match was played in hot and humid conditions at the weekend, with the 12noon kick off replicating the timing for the upcoming Sunwolves game in Tokyo. Hitting over 30C degrees before 10am, the heat and a committed Honda team held the Blues to 12-12 at halftime.  The Blues adjusted to the conditions in the second half to finish strongly for a 52-17 win. The game was enjoyed by a large crowd and the Honda players made an excellent account of themselves against a strong Blues squad.

The team are now in Tokyo to prepare for the final game of the season, against the Sunwolves on Saturday, kick off 12.05pm local time.
