This year’s exciting home derby against the Highlanders will have added significance, falling on Poppy Day.
Poppy Day is a time to pause and remember our fallen service womenand men as well as all those who returned home.
The Blues will honour our ANZAC soldiers in a moving tribute pre match, by stopping to observe the ode, reflect as a bugler plays the Last Post and taking a moment to think about all those who have served our country. It will be a poignant reminder of all the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform and their families have made.
This year’s appeal has a mental health theme – not all wounds bleed– which echoes the work also been done in rugby to address mental wellness. Service-induced stress injuries are the most common, but least understood, of all wounds suffered by today’s servicemen and women.
As supporters of this year’s RSA Poppy Appeal, we’re asking fans to give generously to help support New Zealand’s living 41,000 veterans with donations providing a range of support services for current and former servicemen and women.
