BLUES AND BNZ GIFT BOOTS

BLUES AND BNZ GIFT BOOTS

Blues players and staff volunteers from BNZ enjoyed a busy afternoon as they ensured some 600 pairs of used rugby boots were made fit for new owners.

It is part of the Blues Best Foot Forward program which, in association with major partner BNZ, re-purposes used boots donated by the public.

The boots were cleaned and given a new pair of blue laces – a reminder to the recipient to put their best foot forward on and off the field.

Over the next few weeks the Blues and BNZ staff volunteers will help deliver the boots to worthy clubs and schools in our region.

Blues Legend Keven Mealamu, ambassador for Best Foot Forward, said the initiative has been popular and is important for families who cannot afford to provide boots for children so they can play rugby.

“We don’t want youngsters to miss out of the joys of team sport because they can’t afford boots,” Keven said. “Each year so many rugby players of all ages replace their boots, and this is a great way for them to be used.

Those with boots to offer can do so at any branch of BNZ throughout the Blues region (Auckland, North Harbour and Northland) or at the Blues HQ at Campbell Ave, Epsom.
